December 17, 2024 Today, there was activity again in the eastern part of our country... In Recht (Sankt-Vith), one of the first WeatherWise test stations was replaced with the latest version. This version is even more energy-efficient than the initial prototypes and also reports more operational data, allowing us to quickly gain insights remotely if something goes wrong. In Büllingen, a new weather station was installed (Zur Bannmühle, at an altitude of 565 meters), further expanding our network in an area where it can get really cold. The measurements are limited to air temperature at 1.5 meters above the ground and the temperature above the grass at +10 cm and +30 cm heights. The latter height is primarily used to measure the temperature when a snow cover is present, and the sensor at 10 cm is buried under snow... The weather station at Mont-Rigi was also a first-generation WeatherWise and was updated to the latest version to prepare for the future. The old test version was then taken to the highest point in Belgium and installed at Botrange. This means weather data from that area will also be available for this winter season. |
December 13, 2024 Amid all the replacements of defective weather stations, there was time today to add a new weather station to our list. In the vineyard at Hour (Houyet) in the province of Namur, we found some open space. Currently, the observations are limited to air and grass temperature (1.5 meters above ground and 10 cm above the grass). |
December 10, 2024 The sensors of the Meteohelix in Remonval (Waimes, province of Liège) had also started malfunctioning recently. Today, it was replaced with a WeatherWise model… |
December 9, 2024 The network repair work is steadily progressing… The weather station in Arendonk (De Liereman, province of Antwerp) was preventively replaced with a WeatherWise version. The nearby weather station at the visitor center (Oud-Turnhout) was defective, and for now, the former Arendonk Meteohelix has been installed there. The Scherpenheuvel-Zichem weather station was also preventively replaced with a newer generation today. |
December 6, 2024 Repairs in the BMCB network continued today. The weather station in Kieldrecht (Beveren), located to the left of the Port of Antwerp, became operational again today... |
November 28, 2024 The Meteohelix weather station in Veurne – which, notably, had broken down for the third time – has been replaced today with a WeatherWise model. We now also have access to ground temperature in addition to air temperature, humidity, precipitation, and wind. |
November 25, 2024 As you’ve undoubtedly noticed, the navigation structure of our website has been updated. Additionally, several other changes have been implemented. In the coming weeks, more updates are planned. On the interactive map, it is now possible to add an extra layer displaying the precipitation radar. This layer becomes visible when you check the option in the menu at the top of the page. |
November 22, 2024 Today, two defective weather stations were also replaced with Weatherwise models: the one in Bornem (province of Antwerp) and the weather station in Malderen (Londerzeel), located in the province of Flemish Brabant. Please note that standard Weatherwise stations do not measure solar radiation or atmospheric pressure. Specific versions are being developed for these parameters.

November 20, 2024 The malfunctioning weather stations in Budingen (Zoutleeuw), located in the eastern part of the Flemish Brabant province, and Heist-op-den-Berg, in the southern part of Antwerp province, were replaced today with a WeatherWise model and are now operational again. Starting from now, the grass minimum temperature at a height of 10 cm will also be measured. Alongside this good news, we unfortunately have to report that the Barani Meteohelix in Balen, in the eastern part of Antwerp province, has stopped working... |
November 14, 2024 We have observed that several Barani weather stations in our network have reached the end of their life or have completely failed. In recent days, we found that the stations in Onkerzele/Geraardsbergen, Galmaarden, and Zande/Koekelare have shown issues, and the weather station on the Rode Berg in Westouter/Heuvelland is no longer transmitting data... We also see online that some people deem it unnecessary to replace these weather stations (which, in our opinion, are of disappointingly low quality) and prefer to keep muddling through with makeshift repairs. These repairs are supposedly offered free of charge (sic) by the manufacturer… except that this manufacturer doesn’t respond to our emails. |
November 07, 2024 The defective Meteohelix weather stations in Wervik and Westrozebeke (Staden), in the province of West Flanders, were replaced today with a Weatherwise model. In addition to air temperature, grass-level temperature is now also being measured. During the update, it was also found that the rain gauge on both stations was no longer functioning properly, and as a result, no precipitation data is currently available. We aim to replace them with a different, improved model in the future. |
November 04, 2024 An additional option was added to the dashboard on the website to display only the temperature. This reduces each individual station to half the size of the full dashboard, allowing you to see twice as many weather stations on the screen. You can select this option by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen and checking the “Show temperature only” option. Please note that the dashboard is currently only available in English. |
October 25, 2024 Today, our monitoring network was further expanded with a new weather station. It is located in the East Cantons near the small village of Maspelt, which is part of the larger municipality of Burg-Reuland. Here, we measure air temperature in a screen at 1.5 meters above the grass field, as well as temperatures at 10 and 30 cm above the grass. The altitude of the new weather station is just under 500 meters above sea level, making it significantly higher than our station in Braunlauf (450 meters altitude). The distance between the two locations is about 7 km. During clear radiation nights, a considerable temperature difference can often be observed, with Braunlauf recording the lowest values. The weather station has also been equipped with a webcam. Due to its remote location, we need to conserve energy, which means we will only provide a few images per day. These can be found on our page with webcam images. |
October 13, 2024 With winter approaching, the snowcams are being dusted off and prepared for installation. You will soon be able to view them on our website. Winter and snow immediately bring to mind the High Fens and the Botrange. In the coming weeks, a weather station, also equipped with a webcam, will be reinstalled there, which will also serve as a snowcam. There are also plans to set up a new weather station with a webcam in Maspelt, a village in Burg-Reuland (a municipality located in the Eastern Cantons near the German and Luxembourg borders). With an elevation of about 500 meters, it is a strong candidate for snowfall under the right conditions, and it also offers beautiful views. The problem with the Barani weather stations continues to plague our network. A large number of Weatherwise stations are now in full production, and over the next few weeks (and months), we will install them. Stations urgently in need of replacement due to a (nearly) defective Barani Meteohelix include: Beernem, Pittem, Zarren/Kortemark, Westrozebeke/Staden, Westouter/Heuvelland, Wervik, Veurne, Lissewege/Brugge, Kieldrecht, Malderen, Bornem, Zoutleeuw/Budingen, Pepingen, Zutendaal, Bree, Heist-op-den-Berg, Ham, Oud-Turnhout, and more. In short, the situation is dire, with the failure rate rapidly nearing 100% over the past few years. In addition to replacing all problem stations, we will also equip several new locations with the latest BMCB measurement equipment. The locations currently on our list are:

October 05, 2024 Today we have added another webcam to the page with all webcams. This new webcam is located next to our weather station at Elsenborn (Grünen Kloster), Bütgenbach. This is the location where during the month of January we also measured the lowest temperature in our country in recent years, a respectable -23.0°C.... Since this location is very remote, an energy-efficient solution was used. This means the webcam does not deliver new images every 5 or 10 minutes like other webcams, but this is done manually. We try to do this once or several times a day - depending on how interesting the weather is - so that we can still provide a representative picture of the environment. |
October 04, 2024 The network is constantly being updated with non-working Barani-Meteohelix weather stations being replaced with our own BMCB-Weatherwise stations. Today the station at Mont-Rigi was replaced so that we still have observations as the winter season approaches and we hopefully get lots of interesting weather. The existing weather station in the south of the province of Luxembourg at Moyen (Chiny) along the Semois river also received a new station today. A few weeks back a new station was installed at Yvoir in the province of Namur and the defective Meteohelix in Faulx-les-Tombes was also replaced with a Weatherwise one. The defective Meteohelix in Archennes (Grez-Doiceau, Walloon Brabant) also received a new version.... Now that we are in the autumn season and the winter season is fast approaching, we expect more Meteohelix weather stations to go down. In other words, we are expecting busy months ahead and hope we can replace/install faster than the Meteohelix stations go down.… |
May 23, 2024 The Barani-Meteohelix weather station, which had been active in our network for several years, had broken down in recent months - like many others. Today it was replaced by a Weatherwise one for measuring temperature (air and above grass), humidity and precipitation. |
May 23, 2024 Also today the BMCB network was further expanded. With summer approaching (or at least it should...) and the sea breeze that comes with it, the Belgian coast was chosen this time. A brand new weather station for measuring temperature - both in the air and above the grass - and humidity was installed in Westende at a distance of about 900 meters from the beach. |
May 17, 2024 Another WeatherWise weather station has been set up as of today at Merelbeke (new location in our network), south of Ghent in the province of East Flanders. Here the measurement of air temperature and humidity as well as the grass temperature is done. With our thanks to Willy De Bosscher. |
May 17, 2024 In Brakel, in the Flemish Ardennes, the former Barani Meteohelix weather station that had been defective for some time was today permanently consigned to the wastebasket and replaced by a WeatherWise station that will observe the weather there. Again, measurement of air temperature and humidity at 1.5 meters, grass temperature and also precipitation. |
May 7th, 2024 Another second weather station was installed today at a new location in the north of the province of East Flanders at Stekene. Again, the temperature (shelter) and above grass is measured as well as humidity. Precipitation will be added later. |
May 7th, 2024 Wuustwezel's Barani weather station - which had been faulty for some time - was replaced today by a new WeatherWise monitoring station. It now measures air temperature, humidity, grain temperature and precipitation. |
May 6th, 2024 A new weather station has been added on the border of East Flanders and the Netherlands. Officially, it is located about 100 meters on Dutch territory of the municipality of Sluis (Sint-Kruis). There is measurement of air temperature, humidity and grass temperature. Precipitation measurement will follow later. |
March 17, 2024 We say goodbye to the past. Today the club's new logo was introduced… Idea and design by Nathaniel Dessart. |
March 1st, 2024 Our BMCB club has decided to stop offering Barani weather stations because of - in our opinion - their inferior quality. |
